Lucky Bean Poetry Night

Join us Monday, November 15th at 6:00 pm for a poetry reading hosted by Lucky Bean Press, followed by an open mic.

Masks and proof of vaccination will be required to attend the event.

This month’s featured reader is Akilah Toney.

Akilah Toney is an 19 year old published writer, poet, dancer, photographer, digital creator, and youth advocate from New Orleans, Louisiana. From writing and dancing at the age of 10, Akilah uses the arts as a means to amplify her experiences at the intersections of young Black womanhood in the south. Akilah has been featured in 826 New Orleans publications, Medium’s Heated magazine, Nola.com, Vogue.com, the New York Times, and the I Am New Orleans Poetry Anthology. Akilah has performed and worked with the Urban Bush Women Leadership Institute, Dancing Grounds, JuneBug Productions, Studio BE, Ashe Cultural Arts Center, and The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation.

Lucky Bean Poetry is a press and reading series in New Orleans, LA.

Lucky Bean Press publishes an ongoing chapbook series. Check out their previous publications here. They are always looking for submissions of original poetry and poetry in translation.

A monthly poetry series with featured reader(s) and open mic, (usually) on the 2nd or 3rd Monday of the month, is hosted at Blue Cypress Books on 8123 Oak Street.
